CHENNAI, Jan 1: The Mettur Dam, the lifeline of farmers in the Cauvery Delta districts for
irrigation, attained the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 120 ft for the third time in 2024 on Tuesday
night.
Official sources on Wednesday said the dam reached its FRL at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night
after a gap of nearly 130 days.
This was for the third time in 2024 that the reservoir has reached its full capacity, bringing in
smiles in the faces of farmers.
In all this was for the 45th time, the Dam attained its full storage level in its nine decade long
history.
The earlier two occasions of having achieved its full capacity being on July 30 and August 12, 2024.
As the Dam attained its full storage level, sluice gates were opened for releasing surplus water
for irrigation, though no flood warning was issued.
The inflow into the reservoir, which was around 2,500 cusecs, later got reduced.
At 0800 hrs today morning the water level was at its full capacity of maximum of 120 feet, with
the storage maintained at its peak of 93.47 thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft).
The inflow was 1,791 cusecs, while the discharge into East and West canals was a minimal
300 cusecs.
