MEXICO CITY, May 19: A judge has issued an order for the imprisonment of two waiters accused in the beating death of Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of civil rights activist Malcolm X, the Mexico City attorney general’s office said.
The resolution begins the judicial process against David Hernandez Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Perez de Jesus, who worked at the Palace bar near Mexico City’s popular Plaza Garibaldi. The men are accused of theft and homicide, and are being held in a Mexico City prison.
Prosecutors say Shabazz and a friend were lured into the bar by a young woman who made conversation with Shabazz in English. They were later presented with a bar tab worth USD 1,200 and a violent dispute ensued.
Prosecutors say the men who beat Shabazz to death not only punched and kick him but also used a bat or stick during the attack. Shabazz died in Mexico City hospital.
On Friday, hundreds gathered to remember the late grandson of Malcolm X as mourners said Shabazz was well on his way to cementing his own legacy before his death at age 28. (AGENCIES)

‘The Hangover’ star Justin Bartha is reportedly engaged to Lia Smith.
The 34-year-old actor, who also starred in the recently cancelled NBC comedy ‘The New Normal’, popped the question to his fitness-trainer girlfriend while they were vacationing in Big Sur this month, reported Us magazine.
“Bartha proposed at the Post Ranch Inn with an unbelievable engagement ring,” a source said.
The actor’s representative is yet to confirm the news.
Bartha and Smith met during a Pilates session at an LA gym where Smith works as an instructor. They debuted their romance this January while vacationing in Maui.
This would be the actor’s first marriage. He was previously linked to actress-turned-designer Ashley Olsen for two years. They broke up in March 2011. (PTI)

Model Suki Waterhouse hopes that her romance with ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ star Bradley Cooper develops into something more serious.
The 21-year-old model has been dating Cooper, 38, since meeting at the Elle Style Awards in London in February and insiders say the British beauty instigated their romance, reported Us magazine.
“Suki asked Harvey Weinstein to introduce her to Bradley because she said she needed to meet him. She wanted him and went after him. Now they’re together all the time,” a source said.
Although the relationship is casual right now, Suki is hoping Cooper will soon want it to get serious, though she is currently content just to be with him.
“She understands his packed schedule which he appreciates. Bradley really has a thing for her right now. She would like something more serious but knows what he’s about and accepts that. She’s just happy to be with him for now, she has such a crush,” the source added. (PTI)
