MGNREGA employees continue protest for 5th consecutive day

JAMMU, Dec 15: Demanding suitable job policy, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) employees continued their peaceful protest for the fifth consecutive day across the Jammu and Kashmir.
The employees today assembled under the banner of All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association J&K at District Kathua and amid slogans, they burnt the effigy of the Government. The protesters were demanding regularization of their jobs.
While addressing the gathering, Provincial President of Jammu Sandeep Kalotra said that Government has framed a job policy for the regularization the services of all contractual, consolidated, casual and daily rated workers working in various departments but it is unfortunately that the MGNREGA employees has been totally ignored by the Government.
As the report from all the districts of Jammu province, all MGNREGA employees observed protests and took out rallies which effected the development works of Rural Development J&K, said Kalotra.
Kalotra said that the MGNREGA is India’s largest flagship programme in which thousands of qualified youth are working but till date, the Government is not serious to secure the future of these employees. He informed that the protest will continue till the Government will not frame a suitable job policy for them.
The employees urged the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister for Rural Development Department Abdul Haq Khan to fulfill their long pending demand as soon as possible.
If the Government failed to redress out issues, MGNREGA employees will protest on December 18 at Press Club Jammu, Kalotra said and urged the employee to assemble at the protest venue to make the protest successful.
Meanwhile, a deputation of MGNREGA employees under the leadership of Sandeep Kalotra met DC Kathua Rohit Khajuria and ACD Rajeev Khajuria and submitted memorandum. DC assured them at their will forward their memorandum to higher authorities for redressal of issues.
Among others present were Kundan Singh Billawaria, Sandeep Sharma, Rajeev Kalsotra, Arun, Rakesh Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Shivdev, Shadin, Raj Kumar, Gourav Kundal, Sohan Singh, Savita Gupta and Rajani.
In Doda, the MGNREGA employees also continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day. The protest was led by Block President Mohammad Ashraf.
