JAMMU, June 12: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association today demanded the Government to frame a job policy for them, enhance basic salary and provide them equal pay for equal work.
Addressing a press conference here today, Sandeep Kalotra, provincial president of the association, said that Ex-Commissioner Secretary, Farooq Peer, had issued a circular order for auto renewal contract of all MGNREGA employees after completion of every year but few days ago, a new circular has been issued by the RDD Secretary, Sheetal Nanda, about the submission of Annual Performance Report (APR) every year.He accused the Government for not giving MGNREGA employees free hand to works and compelled them to work in different schemes like SBM, PMAY, MPLAD, etc.
Kalotra said that MGNREGA employees have been engaged through proper recruitment board under MGNREGA scheme but from last few years, in some districts, few candidates have been appointed as GRS, TA and Computer Operator from back door without issuing any advertisement or notification. He stated that despite working in the department for last 11 years, they have not been regularized till date. Kalotra further lamented that MGNREGA staff is highly qualified but working on less wages than a skilled labour working under MGNREGA and other centrally sponsored schemes running in J&K.
He said that Government has always betrayed us, and added that few months back they called off the protest when the officials assured redressal of their demands but they failed to deliver on their promises. He said that if the Government fails to do anything this time, they will intensify their strike in coming days and will launch mega protest throughout the State.
