MGNREGA employees seek revocation of order

JAMMU, May 19: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association has demanded immediate revocation of the recent order by Secretary Rural Development Department, according to which, extension of the MGNREGA supporting staff shall be made on the basis of their performance.
“We strongly condemned this order, which is in violation of the earlier order by then Commissioner Secretary Farooq Peer (RD/MGNREGA/24/2004-07 on 24-10-2013, in which our annual extension was made auto renewal,” said the Association provincial president Amit Mishra, in a statement, issued here today.
He reminded that MGNREGA supporting staff has been working in the RDD for the last 12-14 years and engaged for schemes under MGNREGA even as their services were being utilized in each and every scheme, like MPLAD, MLA fund, MLC funds, SBM, CD Panchayat, election duties, BLOs, Nodal officers, Liaison officers, COVID duties etc.
“Our whole supporting staff has been performing duties with full efficiency and achieved clearing all parameters and indicators of this department. But during this COVID-19 situation, our staff is being issued threats in the mode of orders to perform work notwithstanding the lockdown and declaration of some areas as Red Zones,” said general secretary Sahil Abrol and added that the recent order making their annual extension conditional was part of this.
The Association leaders appealed the Government to have a fair look towards the genuine concerns of the MGNREGA supporting staff otherwise they would have no option to go on indefinite strike.
