RAMBAN, Aug 23: Like other parts of the Union Territory, the employees engaged under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) continued their pen down strike on eighth consecutive day here today.
They were demanding regularization of their services and other benefits.
District President Ishfaq Ahmed expressed his concern for not taking concrete steps regarding their assumption of services of workers and employees engaged under this scheme since last 13 years in Rural Development and Panchyati Raj Department.
In this connection, a meeting of district working body was held under the chairmanship District President of the union in which Block President Ramban Poonam Sharma, Block President Rajgarh Mudsar Iqbal, Programme Officer Ramban Shahid Husain and others have urged upon the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the concerned department to look into the grievances of the workers who were promised by the administration and department that all their grievances and demands including resumption of services will be completed in time bound manner after strike was held at Srinagar and Jammu respectively in the year 2018.
They said since then the promises and commitments made with them were not kept or honored by the authorities till today.
The workers also held protest outside BDO office here to project their demands.
It is pertained to mention here MGNREGA workers across Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are on pen down strike since 16 August to 27 August to project their demands.
