JAMMU, Mar 5: Twenty seven officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) who were inducted into Indian Police Services (IPS) last year were today allotted year of induction by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs clearing decks for posting of five of them who have been given year 2011 as DIGs any time now though they will become eligible for the promotion on January 1, 2025.
Besides these five IPS officers, there are two Regular Recruits (direct IPS) in 2011 batch who will also be promoted to the rank of DIG whenever the Government takes a call as there are around 14 vacancies of the DIGs.
As per an MHA order issued today, five JKPS officers inducted into IPS have been allotted the year 2011 while eight others have been placed in the year 2012. Seven officers each have been inducted in the years 2013 and 2014.
Five IPS officers allotted the year 2011 are Maqsood-ul-Zaman, Mubassir Latifi Ameer, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rashmi Wazir and Rajeshwar Singh. There are two direct recruit officers of 2011 batch in the UT including Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, who is on deputation with the Government of India and Dr Vinod Kumar, SSP Jammu. Shiv Kumar Sharma is on deputation to the UT of Ladakh.
Allotment of year 2011 to five newly inducted officers will take number of total officers of 2011 batch to seven and all of them will become eligible for promotion as DIGs on January 1, 2025. However, since there are nearly 14 vacancies of the DIGs in Jammu and Kashmir, the UT Government after getting approval of the Union Home Ministry can promote them few months ahead of the eligibility as was done here in the past to overcome shortage of the officers.
Eight officers allotted 2012 batch of IPS include Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Sameer Rekhi, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Nasim Manhas, Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma and Ashok Kumar Badwal.
Officials said they will become eligible for promotion as DIGs on January 1, 2026 but they too can be promoted few months in advance keeping in view the shortage in this category of officers as after sometime, few DIGs will become eligible for promotion as IGPs.
Seven IPS officers assigned the year 2013 of IPS are Showkat Ahmed Dar, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Bakar Hussain Samoon, Firdous Iqbal, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Ranjit Singh Samyal and Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo.
Seven IPS officers allotted 2014 batch include Rajinder Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar Khajuria, Rajesh Bali, Sanjay Kumar, Mumtaz Ahmed and Mohammad Aslam.
All 12 JKPS officers inducted into IPS in the year 2021 have already been promoted as DIGs. Despite this, there are about 14 vacancies of the DIGs in Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said.
Presently, there are 44 posts of IPS reserved for JKPS officers in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. With 27 inductions last year and 12 in 2021, 37 SPS officers are in place as two of newly inducted officers have retired. This has resulted into seven vacancies of IPS from JKPS quota.
However, as per the officials, the process for induction of JKPS officers into IPS will be initiated after conduct of Lok Sabha elections.
In the year 2021, this was after nearly a decade that 12 JKPS officers were inducted into IPS while 27 others were inducted in the year 2023. All of them belonged to 1999 batch of JKPS.
All newly inducted officers have been allotted Arunachal Goa Mizoram Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre as Jammu and Kashmir cadre was abolished by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs following scrapping of special status of erstwhile State and its bifurcation into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
