Mian Altaf visits Kargil

KARGIL, July 2: 4300 Cfts of timber have been distributed among the beneficiaries of Kargil district through 10 depots of Forest Department during current fiscal so far while 8600 Cfts timber are presently available in stock for sale.
This information was given to the Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad, who is on 3-day tour of the district, while reviewing the stock and supply position of timber and firewood at an officers meeting here today.
The Minister asked officers to ensure timely stocking of timber and firewood to meet the future demands of the district. He directed them to start sale of timber available in the depots so that needy persons are benefitted.
Underlining need for launching massive seasonal plantation, Mian Altaf said that need of the hour is to bring more land under afforestation programme.
Minister asked officers to speed up the projects taken up under CAMPA in view of limited working season and ensure that projects are completed in time.
Earlier, a number of deputations met the Minister and apprised him about their demands mostly pertaining to their basic amenities. The Minister assured them that all genuine demands would be addressed in phased manner. He said Government has already initiated several measures for improving basic amenities of the people, particularly, living in hilly areas.
Chief Executive Councillor, Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Council, Ali Ahmad Khan besides senior officers of Forest Department was present on the occasion.
