JAMMU, Jan 23: The School of Education at MIER College organized a comprehensive four-day workshop, centred on the theme of “Life Skill Training and Academic Skill Development” tailored for B Ed , B Ed Special Education, and M Ed students.
The workshop featured Sumit Dutta, a distinguished counselling psychologist and health trainer, as the resource person from Kolkata.
The workshop’s primary focus was to empower future educators with effective problem-solving strategies, techniques to enhance mental health and wellbeing, and tools for stress management and coping mechanisms.
Dutta employed a participatory, interactive, experiential, and dynamic approach to provide participants with hands-on experiences, offering practical insights and tools to benefit them both personally and professionally.
Sessions were dedicated to identifying and resolving academic challenges, encompassing issues such as time management, study skills, procrastination, anxiety, adapting to new environments, motivation, and technology challenges.
Dutta highlighted the demanding nature of the teaching profession and addressed various stress types, such as academic stress, career stress, financial stress, and health stress. Practical tools and coping mechanisms were provided, focusing on the bio-psycho-social model. Additionally, Dutta discussed different types of needs, desires, and duties essential for fulfilling aspirations.
The workshop concluded with an engaging Q&A session where participants clarified doubts and questions.
Prof Adit Gupta, Director, and Principal of MIER College, expressed that the invaluable discussions and insights gained during the workshop would undoubtedly shape ongoing efforts to enhance the educational experience and nurture holistic well-being.
