JAMMU, Sept 25: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Shanti Gupta, founder of MIER, an online poetic memoir event was organized by Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER, highlighted that Shanti Gupta was a multitalented woman who not only excelled in teaching and poetry but was also a good orator, writer and cook. Renu Gupta told the audience that Shanti Gupta kept working towards her dream of writing poems even when initially she didn’t get support from her husband but when renowned poets like Hari Vansh Rai Bacchan and Mahadevi Verma appraised her poems saying that they were like “fresh breeze,” her husband provided full support and motivated her to continue writing.
Rupa Gupta, Director CWS, introduced the poetess by sharing her life journey with the audience. She highlighted that Shanti Gupta, in addition to an outstanding teacher had the compassion for poetry from a very young age. She wrote poems in Hindi highlighting different facts of life, the journey of women and social trend and changes in the community through various “Ras” of poetry.
Deepali Goutam from B Ed Sem II and Neha Bargotra from M Ed Sem II, recited poems of Shanti Gupta. Brij Mohan, renowned poet and composer, shared journey of poetic verses of Shanti Gupta into songs followed by live singing of poems by Lovely Chandra, Sonali Dogra and Vanshika Jaral.
Amarjot Kour Chouhan, MD Infobug and Priyanka Choudhary, News Anchor, Gulistan News, both the alumnae, shared their experiences as students and also owed their success to the institution.
Dr Vishav Raksha, Professor, Department of Sociology & Head CWS, University of Jammu; Dr Jyoti Parihar, Associate Professor, Govt College of Education Jammu; Dr Shalni Rana, Govt College of Education Jammu; Dr Sonia Khajuria, Associate Professor and Head CWS, GCW Parade Ground; Dr Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College; Ruchika Gupta, Jt Director MIET; Ruksana Slathia, IQAC Incharge MIET, IQAC team of MIER along with others the faculty members and students attended the programme.
A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Mamta Kour, and the programme was conducted by Samta Dogra, faculty member, Department of Hindi, Model Academy School.
