JAMMU, Nov 14: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Kot Bhalwal organized Alumni Meet, in which over 75 alumni from all batches and working in top multi-nationals participated.
The highlight of the event was the “Distinguished Alumni Awards” presented to select alumni who have set benchmarks in professional achievement. Seven alumni were carefully selected by a selection committee comprising industry and academic experts and were recognized under various categories.
Dr Zakir Hussain Rather, BE, Electrical Engineering, 2002 batch who subsequently completed MTech from IIT-Mumbai and PhD from Aalborg University, Denmark who is currently working with IIT-Guwahati as Assistant Professor was recognized under Academics and Research category. Danish Basharat Dhar, BE Electronics and Communication, 1999 batch Marketing Head, India and Asia-Pacific, Lumata, who also has MBA from Lancashire University was honoured under Corporate category. Vishay Gupta, BE Information Technology, 2001 batch who is currently working as India Technology Head at Semantify Corp. and has 15 patents to his credit was felicitated under Technical category. Vasu Dewan, 2000 batch, BE Electronics and Communication, currently Vice Chairman of Dewan Breweries and Sonam Kour Reen, BE Electronics, 2000 batch, founder of Kansvin.com a jewellery manufacturing and e-commerce venture were both honoured under Entrepreneurship category. Minakshi Sharma, BE Information Technology, 2001 batch, currently Product Manager, Hewlett-Packard and Yogesh Malhotra, BE Information Technology, 2005 batch, currently Team Lead at Cisco Video Technologies were awarded under the Corporate category.
Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET presented an overview of the achievements at MIET and laid out a comprehensive Alumni Engagement Model which included recognition and awards, alumni mentorship programme, “Meet the Alumni” series of lectures and launch of Alumni e-portal.
Prof SK Sharma, Director, Academics, MIET described the Alumni as the strength of MIET and encouraged them to give back to MIET.
On the occasion, an Alumni Map was also released which shows that over 400 alumni of MIET are currently working overseas in top organizations.
Sahil Sawhney, Manager, Strategic Initiatives presented the vote of thanks.
Among others present were Prof PN Sharma, Head, MBA and Placement Officer, Salim Qureshi, Head CSE and Taru Mahajan, Senior Faculty, ECE.
