JAMMU, Oct 28: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) organized its seventh alumni meet and award function, “Connexions 2016”, at its Kot Bhalwal campus.
On this occasion, two distinguished alumni awards were presented to Manu Gupta from ECE, 1999 batch who is employed with Sprint, USA at Virginia and Swapan Sridhar from CSE, 2001 batch who currently works at Hortonworks, Palo Alto, USA in recognition of their outstanding professional accomplishments. While Manu Gupta was awarded in the Corporate Excellence category, Swapan Sridhar received his award for Technical Excellence.
Students from the MIET Music Club presented soulful renditions on life, friendship and memories which touched the alumni and brought back a flood of memories from college life. The alumni joined in the singing and enthusiastically shared their rich experiences while reminiscing about the time spent at MIET.
They expressed pride at the progress made by MIET in recent years and pledged their support in engaging with the current students in creating further opportunities for them. More than 15 alumni members volunteered to launch the second edition of the innovative “Alumni Mentorship Programme” under which 30 selected students are provided intensive mentoring by the alumni with a view to raise their aspiration and achievement levels.
Earlier, while welcoming the alumni, Prof Ankur Gupta, Director and Prof SK Sharma, Director Academics, MIET, made a presentation on the achievements of MIET and shared plans for creating significant value for the students, industry and society.
Detailed feedback from the alumni was sought on value-added courses to be offered beyond the curriculum, creating internship/placement opportunities and improving quality of project work for the students.
Later the alumni joined the institute leadership team for lunch and networking event. Sahil Sawhney, Manager, Strategic Initiatives and Ridham Gupta from MIET, were the chief event coordinators. The event was streamed live on Facebook by the student organizing committee.
