JAMMU, Oct 21: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) has organized the NAAC sponsored national seminar on “Performance Assessment and Benchmarking of Higher Education Institutions”, here today.
Prof A S Brar, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar and Executive Committee Member, NAAC, was chief guest on the occasion, while Avik Mitra, Senior Advisor, Quality Council of India and Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director, DIQA, University of Jammu were the guests of honor.
The two-day seminar shall focus on evolving novel models for assessing and benchmarking higher education institutions in India. Over 40 research papers shall be presented during both days by researchers from various institutions such as University of Jammu, Central University of Jammu, Pune University, SMVDU, Govt College for Women Parade, MIER College of Education and MIET.
Avik Mitra from the Quality Council of India delivered the inaugural keynote address on the risks and challenges in the auditing process, stressing the need for customization over standardization for achieving better results.
In his presidential address, Prof A S Brar, highlighted the shortcomings in the current models of academic and administrative audit adopted by national bodies such as NAAC and NBA. He felt that in a large country like India, novel IT-based mechanisms can be experimented with to overcome challenges such as cost, logistics and authenticity in the audit process. He also spoke about the central role of the teacher in improving class-room teaching.
Dr Minakshi Kilam later delivered a keynote address on enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of the audit process outlining several new long-term outcomes as key indicators of quality over short-term quantitative measures. Dr Adit Gupta, Joint Director, MIER delivered the final keynote address of the session on using ICT frameworks for conducting transparent academic audits.
Earlier, Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET presented welcome address while Prof Arun K Gupta, Chairman of the MIER Group, described the theme of the seminar as timely and relevant. He felt that new and credible mechanisms, which work in the Indian context, need to be evolved to keep pace with global institutions and effectively meet the expectations of the new generation of learners.
The software development cell at MIET conducted a demonstration of the in-house developed Performance Insight 360 analytics software which ensures a continuous and comprehensive quality management mechanism for institutions. It recently won the national-level QCI Platinum award for quality.
