MIET organizes Start-up awareness session

JAMMU, June 4: The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with Campus Dunia, Startupz Hub, Vibrant Networking Forum & FICCI Flo, JK&L Chapter organized an event on “Unleashing Growth: Creating Startups, Generating jobs and Empowering Women Entrepreneurs’’ .
The guest speakers at the event were Vivek Attray, former-IAS and Motivational TEDx Speaker; Vikas Gupta, VP, IoT Strategic and Smart Connectivity, Vodafone Idea Limited; Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET; Ruchika Gupta, Joint Director MIER Group and Treasurer, FICCI FLO, JK&L; Manik Soodan, Founder and CEO Campus Dunia.
Other dignitaries present were Maj Gen S K Sharma, Advisor MIER Group; Varuna Anand, Senior Vice Chair, FICCI FLO JK&L and other esteemed senior members from FICCI FLO chapter, Dr Sahil Sawhney, General Manager Strategic Initiatives apart from the representatives from IIT Jammu Incubation Centre, Faculty Members from MIET and 250+ students.
Vivek Atray introduced the concept of start-ups and the three elements of idea, resources and support needed to launch a successful startup. He also stressed on the role of innovation and creativity combined with calculated risk-taking ability to ensure success.
Vikas Gupta elaborated on the start-up journeys of many recently turned Unicorn companies like, Super Dairy, Fresh to Home, Licious, NetMed, 1MG, Pharmeasy and Apollo 24/7. He highlighted the role of the mentoring received through accelerators/incubators in ensuring rapid growth of all these unicorns.
Prof Ankur Gupta made a presentation on “Demystifying Startups for Students”, answering questions like What? Why? When? Where? and How? to launch a start-up. He highlighted the need of a customer centric approach for continual innovation and value generation. He urged the students to ensure unit profitability for their start-ups from early on for sustainable growth. He gave the Mantra of ‘Diligence’ to the students for pursuing success in their respective ventures. He also apprised the audience that a MIET faculty startup with an IT-analytics product has reached revenue stage which is a major success at MIET and the region in general.
Ruchika Gupta highlighted the role of FICCI FLO JK&L chapter in promoting women Entrepreneurship in the region. Manik Soodan, a proud alumni of MIET, highlighted the need to act swiftly towards one’s passion and create start-ups. Vote of thanks was delivered by Parveen Kumar Abrol
