JAMMU, Sept 3: Two teams from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) won first prize at the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022 organized by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell last month.
Both the teams were rewarded with cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh each and emerged winners in their respective problem domains.
The problem statements are defined by various Hovernment ministries and each year over 3 lakh students participate in the Hackathon to devise innovative solutions to the stated problems.
MIET is the only institute from J&K to have two teams winning the first prize at the SIH, which is officially the largest Hackathon in world.
A total of four teams from MIET made it to the finals of the SIH-2022 and participated at various nodal centres in Kanpur, Coimbatore, Hubli and Chandigarh.
The first winning team named ‘DSC’ was led by Dhvani Gupta from CSE at the designated nodal centre at Coimbatore. The team developed an app for screening possible mental health issues in adolescents and persons-with-disabilities.
Other team members were Rishabh Jamwal, Muhammad Tabish Khanday, Ayush Bhat, Manan Rafiqi and Raghav Sharma along with faculty mentor, Assistant Prof. Shafalika Vijayal.
Other winning team ‘Smile’ was led by Ishav Verma from CSE at Hubli, Karnataka. It worked on an app for well-being surveillance, assessment and tracking among children.
Other team members were Lavanya Sharma, Archit Prasar, Ananya Gupta, Tanisha Gandhi and Ratinder Pal Singh along with faculty mentor Assistant Prof. Arjun Puri from the CSE department.
Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET mentored all the student teams to deliver an innovative solution towards the problem statements posted in SIH-2022.
The student participation from MIET was coordinated by Parveen Kumar Abrol, Convenor IIC at MIET.
