SRINAGAR, June 12: The migrant employees of Vessu Camp in South Kashmir district of Amanita blocked Jammu – Srinagar National Highway for half an hour in protest against the prevailing water scarcity in the camp.
The irate camp inmates shouting slogans against the administration said that they were facing acute shortage of water and the tanker supply provided to camp was also halted from yesterday as tanker owners alleged that their payment was not released so far.
The protestors including male and female employees warned to continue agitation in case the demand was not settled. They said despite the repeated pleas the problem was not settled by the authorities till date.
They lifted the road blockade on the intervention of SDPO and SHO Qazigund who assured the agitating migrant employees that they will take up the issue with concerned authorities. However they staged dharna on the gate of the camp.
Meanwhile ASKPC president and Member Apex Committee Hira Lal Chatta has urged the authorities to ensure proper water supply to migrant camp of Vessu and also redress other problems of migrant employees putting up at different camps. He also demanded issuance of inter district transfer orders in favour of those migrant employees who have applied for the same without any further delay.
In this regard Mr Chatta has made an appeal to Director School Education Kashmir and urged him not to delay such transfers.
