Mild tremors in Valley

SRINAGAR, July 19: A 5.6 magnitude medium-intensity quake with its epicentre along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border was felt in the Kashmir valley this afternoon.
“There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property. Tremors were felt at around 1.0t p.m. in Kashmir valley”, said Amir Ali of Disaster Management cell.
The epicentre was located at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border at Latitude 36.1 degrees North and Longitude 73.1 degrees east, said Amir.
People in Srinagar and other towns of the Valley came out of their homes and offices due to the tremors.
Jammu and Kashmir is an earthquake-prone region. In October 2005, a 7.9 magnitude quake killed over 1000 people in North Kashmir.
