Militant held, Panch succumbs

SRINAGAR, Apr 4: Police apprehended a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) at Zandpal area of Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
A cordon-and-search operation was launched in Zandpal and its adjoining areas by a joint team of Army’s 2 RR, SOG, police sub-division Tangmarg and 176 Batallion of CRPF.
During searches, suspicious movement of a person was observed and he tried to flee. However, the security forces challenged and apprehended him.
One grenade was recovered from his possession and he was identified as Firdous Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Khan of Zandpal.
Police said that Firdous is an active militant of LeT outfit. He said a case under FIR number 19 /2019 under Section 7/25 IA ACT was registered in police station Kunzer and further investigation set in motion.
Four youth were apprehended last night by police in Shopian for questioning and possible links with Banihal blast case.
They have been idenfied as Inayatullah Malik son of Mohammad Sayeed Malik , Tanveer Ahmad Wagay son of Ghulam Hassan Wagay, Sajad Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Hamid Khan of Vehil and Muzaffer Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Chowdrygund.
A Panchayat member, who was critically injured after being shot by militants in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district last evening succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Srinagar. He succumbed at SMHS hospital in Srinagar at around 11:30 pm.
Dar was shot at by masked gunmen last evening at Shalipora village of Katrasoo following which he was shifted to a local hospital. He was associated with the Peoples Democratic Party and later resigned and had contested Panchayat elections as an Independent candidate.
Security forces this afternoon launched a cordon and search Operation in Hajam Mohalla of Panzgam village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
On specific inputs about the presence of militants, a joint team of security forces including 55 RR, CRPF and SOG Awantipora launched search operation in the area.
Clashes erupted during a cordon and search operation in Khur Batpora area in DK Pora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam.
As security forces launched search operation in the area, youth took to streets and started pelting stones on security forces which was retaliated by firing tear smoke and sound shells triggering clashes.
Security forces had specific inputs about the presence of militants when they launched search operation in the area. However, the operation was later called off.
