Militant held with arms

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Security forces today arrested a former militant, who, they claim, had re-joined militancy in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Sources said that Bandipora police and 14 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army arrested one Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh of Ashtang in district Bandipora this morning.
Sources said that Sheikh was arrested from a TATA magic vehicle during a naka checking. “One pistol, one magazine and two grenades were recovered from his possession”, sources said.
They said that Sheikh, a former militant, had given up the militancy and was living a normal life but had re-joined the militancy recently.
Police are questioning him about his accomplices and the task he was given by the militants.
In the meantime, police and Army this evening cordoned off Naikpora locality in South Kashmir district of Kulgam after they received information about the presence of militants in the locality.
However, during the searches of the locality no militants were found.
It may be mentioned here that security forces have launched a massive manhunt against the militants responsible for the killing of two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Awantipora last week.
The two CRPF men killed were on Road Opening Party (ROP) duty when they were fired upon by a lone Pheran clad militant who fled from the scene after carrying out the attack. Security forces have launched a massive hunt against him.
