Srinagar, Oct 21: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed and three Army men were injured in an encounter in Kunzar area of Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
Police and Army’s 2 RR cordoned off village Bogam in Kunzar area of Tangmarg this morning after they received information about presence of militants in the village.
The militants present in the village opened fire and troops retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which one militant of Hizbul Mujahideen, Nisar Ahmad Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani of Aatipura, Kunzar was killed.
Three army men were injured during the gunfight. The injured soldiers have been immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar for the treatment.
After the killing of the militant, the troops conducted searches for the other militants for several hours. Reports said that they had information about presence of two more militants, Zakir and Bilal Ahmad in the village. It is, however, not known whether the militants had fled before the cordon or during the initial gun battle.
A Police spokesman said that one militant was killed in an encounter with police and security forces in Kunzar area of district Baramulla.
“Acting on specific information in the Kunzar area, Baramulla police and 2 RR jointly cordoned off the area and started the search operation. The hiding militant opened fire on the joint search party, triggering an encounter. The encounter ended with the elimination of a militant identified as Nisar Ahmad Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani resident of Adipora Kunzer of HM outfit”, the spokesman said.
A Defence spokesman said that in a joint operation by Army and JKP today morning, one militant was killed in Bangam village near Kunzar, Baramulla District.
“As the operations progressed to track down terrorists whose presence has been reported in the morning, contact was established and a fierce gun battle ensued which continued intermittently throughout the day. In the operation one heavily armed terrorist of HM outfit was eliminated who has been identified as Nisar Wani s/o Ali Mohd r/o Aatipura, Kunzar and a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores have been recovered from him. Three Army soldiers also sustained injuries during the gun fight who were immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital for the treatment”, the spokesman said.
In the meantime, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured as Army launched operation near Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night.
Army’s 45 RR search party opened fire late last night after it observed some suspicious movement between Gautum and Bhagat posts along LoC near Z-Gali.
A JCO who was heading the patrolling party was injured after his vehicle skidded off the road at Z-Gali Mode in the sector. The injured JCO, identified as Subaider Vijender Singh, has been taken to hospital for treatment.
