Rifle snatched from cop in South Kashmir

Srinagar, July 25: A militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Munand area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this morning while large quantities of explosives were recovered in Kupwara and an AK-47 rifle was snatched by militants from a constable in Kulgam.
Police said that a militant, Mohammad Imran Dar son of Abdul Qayoom Dar of Batengoo area of Khanabal in Anantnag was killed in an encounter at Munad village of Kulgam today.
He said that the operation was carried out by joint team of Police, Army and CRPF after they received specific input this morning about presence of some militants in the area.
One of the three militants killed in gunfight with security forces in Bandipora forests has been identified as Sariq Altaf Baba while two others are Pakistan nationals.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that Sariq, a resident of Bandipora, had ex-filtrated via Wagah border in 2018 and had infiltrated recently through Line of Control.
He said that Sariq was affiliated with Lashker-e-Toiba militant outfit. The other two militants killed in the gunfight at Sumlar-Aragam area are foreigners. One of them has been identified as Taha @ Shakir of Pakistan
The gunfight, ensued after militants opened fire on joint team of Police, Army’s 13RR, 14RR, Marcos, Para Special Force and CRPF in the woods.
An official said that the search operation has been resumed this morning in Bandipora after yesterday’s gunfight as there could be more militants hiding. He said that three bodies have been recovered and they have been buried in Handwara. Three AK-47s rifles, 280 round and 13 magazines were recovered from the encounter site.
Four Improvised Explosive Devices concealed under a big stone were found at Nadernagh Avoora in Kupwara today.
A police official said that the IEDs were recovered during a cordon-and-search-operation by police and Army’s 41 RR army. The official said a Bomb Disposal Squad was sent to the area and IEDs were defused.
Militants today snatched a rifle from a police constable at Shamsipora crossing in Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Militants snatched AK-47 weapon from a constable Mudasir Ahmad, resident of Devsar, posted at Police Station Wanpoh at Shamsipora crossing. Security forces cordoned off the area to nab the militants responsible for weapon snatching.
