SRINAGAR, June 30: A militant was killed while as a security force personnel was injured in a fierce encounter in the forests of the frontier district of Kupwara today.
Police said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a joint operation in the forests in Handwara area of Kupwara district last evening following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
When troops were sealing the forest area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons resulting in injuries to a security force personnel.
Security forces returned the fire and in the fierce encounter one militant was killed. The militant was not identified but was later buried in a local graveyard.
