Srinagar, May 20: Security agencies today killed an infiltrating militant along Line of Control in Tangdhar area of Kupwara and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition besides 10 packets of heroin from his possession.
Police said that at about 0900 hours, a group of heavily armed militants attempted to infiltrate in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara. He said that they were challenged by the alert troops deployed on LoC. However, they opened fire on the troops which was retaliated resulting in the elimination of one infiltrating militant on spot. The other militant is believed to have got injured and escaped from the spot.
The dead body has been recovered and the ID-card recovered identified him as Mohd Nazeer, resident of Athmuqam area of PoK.
“Huge cache of narcotic substances and arms/ ammunition including 10 packets of heroin, two AK rifles, 2 AK magazines, two pistols and four pistol magazines have been recovered from his possession,” police said.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered FIR at Police Station Karnah and further investigation is in progress.
