JAMMU:
Two surrendered militants turned cops today allegedly went missing with their official weapons in mountainous Doda district.
” Two militant turned cops this afternoon allegedly fled with service rifles, arms and ammunition,” a senior police official here said. He said the cops identified as Riyaz Ahmed and Gul Muhammad, both residents of district Doda reportedly managed to escape with INSAS and AK 47 rifles.
“The duo had also managed some AK-47 magazines”, he said, adding that both, before joining the police department were militants of Hizb-ul-Mujaheedin and Lashkar-e-Toiba and were presently serving as Special Police Officers (SPOs).
He said manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconders. Riyaz Ahmad, the former Hizb militant surrendered in 2002 and Gul Mohammad, who was an active member of LeT, laid down his arms in 2010. (AGENCIES)
