Srinagar, Aug 28: Militants this afternoon attacked a Police Station in South Kashmir district of Pulwama hardly an hour after a senior police officer visited it.
Sources said that a senior police officer visited the Police Station and attack came after an hour. The senior police officer was for a day long visit to South Kashmir.
Police said two pedestrians were injured when militants opened fire at the Police Station Awantipora, prompting security personnel to retaliate.
Sources said that the two militants came on a mortar bike from Anantnag and parked their vehicle near the Police Station and fled after firing several rounds at the Police Station.
Police guards fired back and in the ensuing exchange, two pedestrians were injured. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital and a hunt had been launched to nab the militants.
The injured persons have been identified as Farzana wife of Dr. Suhail Ahmad Tari resident of Rawalpora, Srinagar and Rafeeq Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Ahsan resident of Achabal, Anantnag.
Rafeeq is a CRPF jawan who is posted in Bemina area of Srinagar and was returning from home after vacations.  He is from 28th battalion of CRPF and both were travelling in a shared taxi JK03C 4282 along with the other passengers.
The latest strike comes barely two days after militants shot dead two security personnel – a policeman and a CRPF jawan – and injured two others in separate attacks at Arwani in Anantnag and Almeira in Shopian district.
