Srinagar, Nov 11: After a brief exchange of fire this afternoon, militants managed to give a slip to the security forces at Parigam village of Newa in Pulwama district.

An official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area today.
He said as the joint team of security forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering a gunfight.
After the initial exchange of fire, no contact was established with the hiding militants.
The official said that cordon layers were tightened after the initial exchange of fire. However, the militants managed to give a slip to security forces and the operation was called off.
