JAMMU, Feb 21: Army is organizing a four-day veterans surgical eye camp at Military Hospital, Satwari.
The eye camp was inaugurated by Brig CK Jakhmola, Medical Unit, White Knight Corps along with Brigadier Tathagat Chatterjee, Comman-dant, 166 Military Hospital at the hospital premises in Jammu Cantt here today. The camp will be operational from February 21 to February 24, 2016.
A defence spokesman said that the camp is being organised to help and screening all veterans of Armed Forces and their dependents covering the area of Satwari, Miran Sahib, RS Pura, Bari Brahmana, Kaluchak, Ratnuchak, Sanjuwan, Domana, Akhnoor, Udhampur, Pathankot and Nagrota of Jammu division for eye ailments like cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy etc.
Today, around 137 ex-servicemen and their dependents were screened and more than fifty percent cases were recommended for surgeries. The eye surgery including sutureless cataract surgery with foldable intra-ocular lens implantation, pterygium excision with sutureless autograft, besides other surgeries will be carried out from tomorrow onwards.
These special surgeries will be performed by Lt Col Ashok Jha and Lt Col Mariam Mathew, the eye specialists of the Military Hospital. Alongside eye camp, the CSD facilities were also arranged for the veterans. The ex-servicemen lauded the efforts of Army Medical Unit, Jammu.
