SRINAGAR : The minimum temperature across Kashmir, except in Gulmarg, improved on Saturday, even as the mercury settled above the freezing point in Srinagar and Kulgam, officials said.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius last night, up from the previous night’s minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, they said.
Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley, recorded a minimum of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius, a degree up from the previous night, the officials said.
Pahalgam tourist resort, which also serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, up from minus 4.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.
Kupwara town, in north Kashmir, registered a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag, in the south, 0.2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, settled at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius last night, down from minus 2.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, the officials said.
They said the resort was the only place in the valley where the minimum temperature dropped last night.
The Meteorological (MeT) Office has said the while the weather is expected to remain mainly dry in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, there is a possibility of very light snowfall on the higher reaches. (AGENCIES)
