Minister, CVC, legislators call on Governor

JAMMU, Feb 27: Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture called on Governor N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here this evening.
During their meeting, the Governor and the Agriculture Minister discussed the implementation of various flagship schemes concerning the agriculture sector and the measures being taken for enabling the growers to be timely provided with all the required inputs and, besides, the latest technical know-how for enhancing agri-productivity and production.
Other important issues relating to the speedy socio-economic development of the State also came up for discussion during their meeting.
Kuldeep Khoda, Chief Vigilance Commissioner also called on Mr Vohra.
During their discussions, the Governor urged Mr. Khoda to take well considered steps to place the State Vigilance Commission on a sound footing and ensure its orderly functioning as soon as possible.
The Governor stressed that the effective functioning of statutory and constitutional institutions has a vital bearing on the enhancement of accountability and good governance.
This was Mr. Khoda’s first meeting with the Governor after he recently took over as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner.
Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Member of the State Legislative Council also called on Mr Vohra.
The Governor and Mr. Sheikh discussed several important matters relating to the advancement of the people’s welfare and development of the State, particularly focusing on issues relating to the effective decentralization of the democratic framework in both the rural and urban sectors.
A deputation of the Management Committee of the Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla, also called on Mr Vohra.
The 6-member deputation led by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, MLA and President of the Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, briefed the Governor about the functioning of the Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, diagnostic and treatment facilities already made available and those in the pipeline. Prof. Gupta also briefed the Governor about the expansion plans of the Hospital Complex and presented a memento to the Governor on this occasion.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and assured all possible support to the organization in its initiatives of providing medicare facilities to the people, particularly those belonging to the less advantaged segments.
The deputation comprised Yashpal Puri, Amar Chand Gupta, Atma Saroop Gupta, Dr M. P. Gupta and B. S. Jamwal.
Meanwhile, Jehangir Mir, Member of the State Legislative Council, called on Mr Vohra and discussed with him various demands which relate to the development of Poonch district.
Mr. Mir particularly referred to the crucial importance of the power supply to Poonch district being improved on a time bound basis, urgent measures being taken for compensating the huge loss suffered by farmers due to the severe damage to their orchards by the recent snowfalls in the area, facilitating ready availability of bank loans to the unemployed youth for setting up their own business ventures; and the need to early resolve certain problems relating to the cross-LoC trade.
The Governor assured Mr. Mir that the issues raised by him would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
