Minor girl washed away in flash flood

REASI/RAJOURI, Aug 14: A baby girl was washed away in flash flood following heavy rain that also led to blockage of roads to Mahore area, while locals in Rajouri staged protest as rain water entered into their shops and houses.
Reports said that one and half year old Rashta, daughter of Raj Mohd of Chassana was washed away when she was being carried on back of her sister, who got trapped in flash flood in a Nallah at Chassana, this evening.
The victim girls were on way to home when they got trapped in flash flood. Even as the elder sister was rescued by the locals, body of the little one was recovered at some distance.
Heavy rains and flash flood also triggered landslides and consequent blockage of Mahore -Budhal roads as well as Mahore Reasi road. A car was trapped in flash flood in Malai Nallah on Mahore road even as the persons travelling in the car were later rescued with the help of a JCB Machine.
Meanwhile, reports from Rajouri said that heavy and torrential rain that started suddenly at around 4 pm on Monday, led to overflowing of river and drains following which slum dwellers living on the banks of Sukhtoi river in Rajouri were shifted to safer places as the water was flowing above danger mark.
The water level in the local rivers suddenly increased triggering flash flood-like situation in Rajouri. To avoid any untoward incident, Rajouri police swung into action and shifted the slum dwellers to safer places.
In Manyal Gali of Thannamandi, people suffered losses as the rain water entered into many houses and shops due to overflowing of drains on the road. The crusher of Dharmaraj Construction Company engaged in the construction work of Thannamandi Rajouri road also got damaged due to increase in the water level in the local drain of Thannamandi.
People of Manyal Gali lodged strong protest against GREF authorities and staged a dharna at Raj Construction Company office for its failure to construct protection walls and proper drainage.
