NEW DELHI, Feb 17: Member Parliament Gulam Ali Khatana today said that minorities have been given equal opportunities and equal status by the present regime led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in the coming days, minorities will flourish unprecedently.
Speaking at a felicitation function organized at India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) here today, the MP said that during past eight years no riots have been reported from anywhere in the country and all the communities are living peacefully. He said that minorities’ welfare especially ‘pasmandas’ have been the special focus of the welfare schemes of the Government of India and benefits are percolating to the last man in the row.
Khatana said that Prime Minister has time and again reiterated his commitment for the welfare of minorities and even instructed his party workers to ensure that minorities are taken care of and they feel safe. Taking a jibe at the parties who ruled India during past seven decades, he said that those political parties used minorities as vote bank only while doing nothing for their welfare. “They used their fear as a weapon to get votes and keep them backward and away from the national mainstream,” said Khatana, adding, “Prime Minister ensured the participation of minorities in the developmental journey of the country.”
He said that Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a new era of peace and development and it became only possible under the present regime that the leader of opposition could walk freely on the roads of J&K without any fear and hoisted flag at historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Can someone believe such peace and calm in the erstwhile state of J&K under the rule of Congress, National Conference and PDP, he said.
Earlier, chairman IICC Sirajuddin Quraishi welcomed the MP and praised his commitment to the cause of downtrodden sections of the society while treasure IICC Abrar Ahmed presented the vote of thanks.
Prominent among those present were Azeem Anwar Khan (Deputy Secretary, Rajya Sabha), Shakir Raza, Naseem Choudhary, Shakeel Malik and Kausar Jahan (member, Delhi State Hajj Committee).
