Srinagar, Jan 13: As the formation of new administrative units has created furore across the State, senior leaders of ruling National Conference and Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today had a verbal duel in Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting in Srinagar over the formation of new administrative units.
The Member Legislative Council and PDP leader Mohammad Ashraf Mir demanded two districts for Srinagar, one tehsil and two Nayabats each for eight constituencies of Srinagar district during his speech.
Mir said that if Ganderbal has a district for two Assembly constituencies and Bandipora a district for three constituencies why shouldn’t Srinagar have two districts for eight constituencies. He said that Srinagar is fast growing with its population of 15 lakh and it spreads over 50 kilometers and people feel lot of hardships in absence of more administrative units.
But when NC MLA for Amira Kadal constituency and provincial president of NC, Nasir Aslam Wani, started his speech, Mir interrupted him for praising the Government and asked him to restrict his speech to the formation of administrative units in Srinagar.
Sources said that Mir while interrupting Wani’s speech described the CSC meeting staged managed by the NC. He told the meeting that it was stage managed as there were only NC and their sponsored representatives.
While shouting at Wani, Mir said that NC is deceiving people; they are trying to befool people and are playing politics with the formation of new administrative units.
Sources said that Wani during his speech was highlighting the achievements of the Government in the meeting and Mir objected him saying that he should focus on formation of new administrative units in Srinagar. However, Wani ignored his pleas and Mir walked out from the meeting after the two leaders had a verbal duel.
Wani said that he has no idea that why PDP legislator disrupted his address during the meet when he even didn’t make any mention of PDP in it. He said that since he is provincial president of the NC, the Chairman of the CSC allowed him to speak for Kashmir Province.
Wani said that he submitted the demands of several areas of Kashmir province before the committee and demanded two additional sub- districts for North and South Srinagar and establishment of three additional tehsils.
