JAMMU, Apr 13: Miran Sahib, Jammu and Gandhi Nagar Zones lifted Girls U-19, U-16 and U-12 years Football titles in the ongoing Inter Zonal District Level Football Championship under ‘Let’s Play’ Football Co-branded with Khelo India at BSF Paloura Ground and Sainik Public School Football Ground, here today.
In all, 550 Girls drawn from 42 teams across 14 Zones of District Jammu took part in the competitions, which were organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General and under the supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu.
Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu was the organizing secretary of the event.
Ajit Singh Tomar, Deputy Commandant (Sports Officer BSF Paloura) who was chief guest on the concluding ceremony distributed the trophies among the winners and runners-up teams.
While addressing the participants, Mr Tomar said that the students should more and more participate in sporting activities to live a happy and healthy life.
He further said that such tournaments are a step forward with regard to the initiatives taken by the Government regarding ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ campaign.
In Under-19 Girls final at BSF Paloura Ground, Miran Sahib Zone defeated Arnia Zone by two goals to nil (2-0).
Earlier, in semifinals, Miran Sahib Zone beat Jammu Zone by 2-0 and Arnia Zone trounced Akhnoor Zone by 3-2 goals in a well contested match.
In Girls Under-16 final at the same venue, Jammu Zone beat Akhnoor Zone by a solitary goal (1-0), while in the contest for 3rd place, Miran Sahib outplayed Arnia Zone by (2-1) goals.
In Girls Under-12 final at Sainik Public School Football Ground, Sainik Colony, Gandhi Nagar Zone defeated Arnia Zone to lift the title.
In the semifinals, Gandhi Nagar Zone beat Marh Zone by 4-3 goals via tie-breaker and
Arnia Zone outplayed RS Pura Zone by 2-1 goals via tie-breaker.
RS Pura Zone beat Marh Zone by 3-0 goals to win 3rd place.
The Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) present on the occasion included Jeet Singh, Sher Singh, Jaswant Singh, Jasbir Singh, Tarsem Singh, Kiran Jyoti, Poonam Kotwal, Chander Kanta and Ravi Thakur.
