Mirwaiz stopped from offering prayers at Jamia Masjid

Srinagar Aug 26: Police today stopped Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from leaving his residence to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid here.
He was stopped from coming out of his house, days after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that he was not under house arrest. He is under house arrest for the last three years and has not been allowed to come out.
As soon as Mirwaiz’s vehicle reached the main gate of his residence, police deployed outside his residence stopped it and asked him to return home.
Mirwaiz was seen arguing with the police officers at the main entrance of his house telling them that he be allowed to go to Jamia Masjid.
One of the officers told that a security review was going on due to which he would not be allowed to leave.
Mirwaiz said his rights as a citizen were being snatched despite the LG making a clear statement that there are no curbs on his movement.
Stepping out of the car, the Mirwaiz tried to walk out through the main gate but he was stopped by police.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar expressed strong disdain against the authorities for once again disallowing Mirwaiz to address the faithful at grand mosque after three years.
