Trauma hospitals wereestablised with the sole aim of providing timely critical treatment to the people injured in road accidents and those suffering in natural calamities .Considerable money too was spent on their basic infrastructure but due to faulty handling and mismanagement , these trauma centres are found more or less non functional , ill equipped and thus defeating the very purpose of their establishment. We had last year in May brought out a detailed account of such hospitals with particular reference to the one at Ramban which was constructed nearly a decade back and should have been an example in itself in providing critical care to the needy especially looking to its area of situation being quite vulnerable.
Accordingly , the Division Bench of High Court perusing the report in the ‘Excelsior’ about Ramban Trauma centre directed the same to be treated as PIL issuing notice to the UT Government through Secretary of Health . Basically such trauma centres need specialised medical staff which is found in utter deficiency hence the reason behind their non functioning. Since the Government as respondents are to submit a written reply in respect of the matter in the next hearing which is listed on June 16, it is expected not only would the court be informed all about the matter but some corrective measures too would be taken which could be placed before the court. Precious public money is just getting squandered on such sensitive projects due to the absence of the requisite manpower which the Government should look into and resolve.
