Mismanagement, indiscipline intolerable: Health Minister

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shabir Ahmed Khan exhorted upon the functionaries of Health Department to work with devotion and dedication for bringing more improvement in health care facilities across the State, directing that ensuring punctuality among the hospital staff, bringing complete accountability and transparency in the health institutions should always remain the top priority.
The Health Minister paid surprise visit to Sub-District Hospital, Chadoora in Budgam to take stock of the functioning of the hospital. He directed concerned Medical Superintendent for ensuring all possible treatment facilities to the patients besides ensuring maximum benefits of RKS, JSS and other programmes to the deserved patients under National Health Mission. He directed Hospital Administrator for maintaining proper cleanliness. He cautioned that concerned Medical Superintendents and Block Medical Officer of their respective hospital are responsible for smooth functioning of the hospitals, adding that it should be properly ensured that all possible facilities are extended to each patient during the treatment in the hospitals.
He also took stock of the facilities being provided to the patients under Centrally Sponsored Schemes RKS and JSS. He directed the concerned for utilization of funds for hospital welfare with close consultation of concerned Legislators.
The Minister during his meetings with hospital functionaries underscored the need for providing hassle free treatment facilities to the patients and bringing complete transparency and accountability in the working of each section of the health centers.
The Health Minister also received the appraisal about the several programmes and policies initiated for up gradation of health care facilities in the district from the concerned authorities. He asked the concerned authorities for bringing in more reforms in the department to infuse efficiency, transparency and above all a qualitative change in the patient care at all hospitals.
The Minister said that providing modern health care facilities to the people of the State tops the agenda of the Government. Infrastructure up gradation have been already initiated in the State especially in rural areas under flagship programme NRHM and State plan so that the rural population would get improved health care facilities in their areas. “There was no paucity of funds to complete the under taken health projects but only need is to pay focused attention of the concerned authorities to monitor the pace of work of the projects for time bound completion “, he said and instructed Chief Medical Officers to keep close vigil on the works being carried out in their districts besides frequently inspecting the functioning of the hospitals with assurance that no patient faces any inconvenience during treatment.
