JAMMU, Nov 2: Uppal Neuro Hospital has launched a nationwide campaign ‘Mission Brain Attack’ to create awareness among people about brain stroke.
This was revealed by Dr Ashok Uppal, founder of Uppal Neuro Hospital (located at Rani Ka Bagh) and member of Punjab Medical Association, Dr Salil Uppal, treasurer of Indian Stroke Association (ISA) while addressing journalists in a programme.
Dr Ashok Uppal informed that the campaign was launched in Varanasi recently by ISA president Dr Nirmal Surya, secretary Arvind Sharma and other team members. He said taking it forward, this mission is also being started in Amritsar by Uppal Neuro Hospital, under which the team of Uppal Hospital will go to different places and make people and local doctors aware.
Dr Salil Uppal said that according to global statistics, one in four people can suffer from stroke and on an average three people become victims of stroke every minute. “To identify paralysis, it is very important to understand B-FAST. B – Balance means loss of balance of the body, I – Eyes – blurred vision, F – Face means mouth getting crooked or hanging on one side, A – means weakness in arms, S – faltering speech, T – means time – treatment should be started on time,” he explained.
He said that if the patient is taken to a stroke ready hospital within four and a half hours of paralysis, which is also called golden period, where the facilities of neurologist, neurosurgeon and MRI are available, then the patient can be saved from becoming disabled. He said that injection TPA in paralysis is a boon for patients.
Neurosurgeon interventionist Dr Shikhil Uppal said that if for any reason the patient reaches the hospital after six to eight hours, then his treatment through mechanical thrombectomy is available at Uppal Neuro Hospital.
Dr Ashok Uppal said that Uppal Neuro Hospital has started pre Stroke Care Ambulance which will have doctor, stroke nurse and modern facilities so that the treatment of the patient can start before reaching the Hospital.
