JAMMU, Feb 18: The State Vigilance Commission, showing serious concern over the misuse of Government funds in Block Thathri, District Doda, allegedly by the officials concerned, has sought action taken report from the Dy Commissioner Doda.
The SVC while proceeding on a complaint lodged by Bhagat Singh Manhas in connection with alleged bunglings and misappropriation of Government funds released under different Centrally sponsored schemes for the execution of various developmental works through Panchayats in Block Thathri, directed the Addl Dy. Commissioner (DVO) Doda, for in-depth enquiry and submission of report thereof.
The requisite report submitted before the Commission prima-facie divulged that enormous funds had been drawn for execution of various developmental works/projects in the Block Thathri from time to time by the concerned officials but, due to lack of proper vigilance the funds have been grossly misused. For example, Rs 2 lakhs had been released for construction of playground for Upper Primary School village Nai, Thathri out of which only a meagre amount had been spent by the concerned officials and rest of the amount stands embezzled. Similarly, Rs 3.30 lakhs had been drawn by officials of the Department of Social Forestry for establishment of Nursery and fencing thereto at village Nia, Bhalara Thathri, but no plantation was done therein and only fencing of the identified land was made which was later on stolen by the unscrupulous elements due to wilful negligence of officials concerned, portraying abuse of official position and criminal breach of trust by the officials/officers at the helm of affairs, ultimately resulting in misappropriation of the Government funds.
The SVC, while taking notice of misuse of the Government money meant for upliftment of remote villages at the hands of public servants, directed the Dy Commissioner Doda to take immediate action in the matter and submit compliance report to the Commission within one month.
