Mixed reaction to Delimitation Commission recommendations

JAMMU, May 6: There has been mixed reaction to final recommendations of Delimitation Commission presented by it to Union Law Ministry at New Delhi yesterday.
Hailing the final report of Delimitation Commission, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today asserted that history has been created by undoing the injustice with the people of J&K and ensuring fair play for one and all by waning off all the provisions which were discriminatory by rationally redrawing the constituencies and giving reservation to deserving lot without any prejudice.
In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP leader welcomed the final report of Delimitation Commission claiming that Jammu has been provided justice after decades of neglect and partiality.
While complimenting the Delimitation Commission for presenting a fairly balanced and objective report, Brig. Anil Gupta (retd.), spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party, has condemned the reaction of Kashmir centric parties including Congress by terming it as “on expected lines”.
Their objection to the report is just meant to provoke and mislead the people as no Constitutional provision exists for rejecting the same. By resorting to such blatant disregard to the sanctity of the Commission, Gupkar Alliance leaders have not only shown disrespect to the constitutionally mandated body but have also raised a question mark on its integrity and intellect, Brig Gupta said in a statement issued here today.
Dr Parneesh Mahajan, convener Department of Training, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has overwhelmingly welcomed the final draft prepared by the Delimitation Commission. Terming the final report as historic he asserted that Jammu and its people have finally got justice after over seven decades of discrimination and injustice.
All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) expressed disappointment over the final draft of the J&K Delimitation Commission, which has redrawn boundaries to add six additional constituencies to the Jammu division and one to the Kashmir division, to take seat strength to 90 in the Union Territory, terming it merely an eye wash.
Ch Manmohan Singh said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are not happy with the final report of Delimitation Commission.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) M while reacting to Delimitation Commission report has asked the people to reject it outrightly. In a statement issued here, today said the recommendations of the Commission are blatantly unjustified and illogical. This has recommended to increase six seats in Jammu region while only one in Kashmir Valley. The Commission considered the 2011 census for delimiting territorial constituencies. Population is the cardinal parameter in such a process. According to the census population of Kashmir is 68.9 lakhs while that of Jammu is 53.8 lakh.
Jammu Kashmir Displaced District (KDD) unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP Jammu Kashmir welcomed the final Delimitation order of KDD and complimented the Delimitation Commission for an all-inclusive, politically empowering and judicious report.
BJP spokesperson and former MLC Girdhari Lal Raina accompanied by KDD president Chand Jee Bhat, general secretary, Hari Krishan Razdan, spokesperson, Rajiv Pandita, Heera Lal Bhat and Moti Lal Bhat said at a press conference here, today.
Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Maha Sabha (KKHMS) under the leadership of its chairman, Ramesh Chander Mahajan and its members welcomed the historical step for recommending the addition of nominated Assembly seats for Kashmiri migrants in the J&K Assembly , during the final report and recommendation of Delimitation Commission submitted to ministry of law New Delhi.
The Delimitation Commission has given great satisfaction to Kashmiri migrants and realised the deep request of empowering the political reservation with nominations and fulfilled the long pending demands ,struggles and aspiration of suffering Kashmir migrants, the Sabha in a handout issued here today said.
BJP councilor Mattan and district vice president Anantnag, Rakesh Kaul has welcomed the report saying it has fulfilled the aspiration of all those people who were neglected by successive Governments of NC, Congress and PDP for decades together.
Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Maha Sabha president, Sardar Khan has welcomed the report and said that the decades old discrimination with Gujjar community in J&K has been done away with the recommendations of the Commission.
He gave all credit for this to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha saying that they deserve all kudos for empowering this backward community.
Sunil Dimple president Mission Statehood led a strong protest rally on Janipur High Court road, burnt the copies of Delimitation report and out rightly rejected it and urging the Prime Minister to withdraw it.
He in a statement said that the Delimitation Commission is a conspiracy to destroy the history , identity, culture , demography of the princely State.
Gurdeep Saini, Sapranch Panchayat Gandli and general secretary All J&K Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) has expressed anguish over the final report of Delimitation Commission saying that the Commission has completely ignored the minorities of J&K especially the Sikh and POJK refugees.
JK Gujjar Bakerwal Welfare Committee (JKGBWC) has welcomed recommendations of recent published gazette of delimitation draft. It seems that carving of different legislative constituency by Delimitation Commission is done after detailed deliberations and discussions and provided justice to every stake holder of union territory of J&K.
After a meeting in Poonch, in a media statement today office bearers complimented LG administration, Delimitation Commission & other authorities involved for creating new Lok Sabha constituency namely Anantnag-Rajouri constituency and reserving 9 seats for ST community in Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was addressed by Tahir Fazal, Zahoor Kasana, Ch Sadiq, Ch Sharif, Ch Javid, iftikar Ahmed, Ch. Shokat and others.
