JAMMU, Mar 11: The Jammu Bandh evoked mixed response as transport plied normally while about 20-25 percent shops in some localities were also found opened during the day today.

A day-long bandh call was given by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in protest against the decision of the JKUT Administration to impose Property Tax in Jammu and Kashmir. While many trade organizations, Bazar Associations, political parties including Congress, NC, AAP, Apni Party, DAP and NPP supported the Jammu Bandh, the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, suspended court work today in response to the Jammu cause.
Yuva Rajput Sabha activists took out protest march in several city roads against the anti-people decision of the LG’s Administration to impose Property Tax on people of Jammu and Kashmir. Led by its president, Happy Singh, the activists of Rajput Sabha were stopped by police at some City points.
Most of the Old City markets including, Kanak Mandi, Purani Mandi, Raghunath Bazar, Residency Road, Pacca Danga, Moti Bazar, Rajinder Bazar, Upper and Lower Gumat Market, Parade Ground, Kachi Chawani, Exchange Road, Rehari, Panjtirthi, Jain Bazar, Pir Mitha, Lakhdata Bazar, Canal Road, Talab Tilloo, Patta Bohri, Ware House and Nehru Market areas were also found totally closed during the day today.
The markets like Amphalla, New Plot, Janipur, Rehari Colony, Subash Nagar were also found shut, however, some markets in Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Railway Station, Shastri Nagar and Satwari witnessed mixed response to the Jammu bandh call given by JCCI. About 25-30 per cent shops in outskirts of Jammu were found opened.
The lawyers suspended their work in various Jammu Courts in response to the decision of the J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu led by Vikram Sharma. The Executive Body of the Bar Association in a meeting held on Friday decided to stand with the people of Jammu on the issue of `Property Tax’ and render them moral support. The court complex and lawyers chambers at Janipur wore deserted look during the day today.
Many shopkeepers, who had kept their establishments closed during the day, however, opened them in the evening.
All J&K Transport Welfare Association, however, was not a part of Jammu Bandh today, claiming that they were not taken into confidence by the traders’ body.
Public transport remained unaffected and was seen plying on the roads normally since early morning. Passenger buses, mini-buses, auto-rikshaws and Tempo Travellers/Sumos were found operating on various routes.
The Yuva Rajput Sabha took out a peaceful march from Bohri to Talab Tilloo and other city localities. The marchers were, however, later dispersed after being stopped by police.
Meanwhile, president Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Arun Gupta said that it was total bandh in Jammu today as all the major opposition political parties, Bar Association, Rajput Sabha and others were supporting the common cause of the people from Jammu and Kashmir. He said the LG Administration must understand and respect the sentiments of the people of Jammu who are against Property Tax. Gupta said Administration by using police force tried to fail the Jammu bandh but the people did it voluntarily understanding the gravity of the situation ahead. He extended gratitude to the people of Jammu and various trade and other organizations for the support.
