MJR-47 to observe Martyrs Day on Oct 22

JAMMU, Oct 17: MJR-47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoK,  has decided to observe October 22 as Martyrs Day in the memory of all those who laid down their lives in the Tribal raid of 1947 by Pakistan on state to annex the Jammu & Kashmir and make it part of Pakistan.
It was decided that as per past practice this year also special prayers will be organised in all the religious places like “Gurudwaras” and “Temples” on this day so that, the off shoots of these , martyrs pay respectful homage to more than 45,000 people who got killed in this nefarious design of Pakistan but was not allowed it to succeeded.
Many members of organization, who had faced the brunt of this raid on the state, narrated the worst type of genocide which was committed on the innocent society of Muzaffarabad, Poonch & Mirpur & other part of the state. There was so much of human blood shed, many women burnt themselves alive to save their honour, children became orphans but they did not let the aggressor to reach Kashmir easily till Indian Army arrived on 27 Oct, 1947 after signing of the instrument of accession by the then Mahraja Sahib of J&K with Indian Union.
Members also expressed their anguish that despite lapse of almost seven decades, they still living with tag of refugees (DP’s). They said respective Govts  have not done any justice to rehabilitate these DP’s families and  settle them permanently.
Even out of 31,619 DP families 5300 families who settled in other parts of the country have not been included in the package recommended by the State Govt. Joint Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs recommended package of Rs 30 lakh to each DP family, as an interim relief, reservation for wards of DP’s in technical Institution and employment package, was not implemented.
Dr Padam Dev Ramin, Om Parkash, Bodh Raj Sharma, Krishan Lal Sudan, Harjit Singh, Raj Kumar, Suchwant Singh, Dalip Singh, Jaswant Singh and Mehta Raghbir Singh also spoke on the occasion.
