KATRA, Feb 22: A three day long exhibition cum sale of products of farmers, farmer producer organizations, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and artisans organized by NABARD was inaugurated here today.
The exhibition “Tarang Mela” was inaugurated by MLA Baldev Raj Sharma, who presided over the event as chief guest, along with general manager, NABARD Vikas Mittal and Chief Scientist, KVK, Reasi Dr Banarsi Lal.
Speaking on the occasion, Baldev Raj Sharma appreciated the efforts of NABARD for selecting Katra as the place of Mela this year.
He urged the farmers to consider joining the FPO movement, SHG movement with focus on skill development for better employment opportunities in and around Katra.
This mela will provide suitable opportunity to farmers, artisans, SHGs to showcase their products, understand customer preferences, etc.
Moreover, the pilgrims coming to Katra to pay obeisance to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and the local population will have the opportunity to feel and purchase the products, from all over the country one place.
Some of the products are Poonch ke Amlook, Udhampur Ki Kaladi, Kulgam Ke Badam-Akhrot and Bihar Ki Madhubani Paintings.
Further the mela will provide an opportunity for the interaction of traders and business community of Katra to create direct contact with the artisans interested in marketing their produce in Katra, as about 100 lakh pilgrims visit Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine annually.
