JAMMU, Mar 4: Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, MLA Tral, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at Raj Bhavan today.
Mr. Shah informed the Governor about the implementation of the important Centrally Sponsored Schemes in his Constituency and stated that much more is required to be done in regard to tourism, education, health, setting up of industrial estates and construction of roads etc.
He submitted a memorandum to the Governor regarding grant of tehsil status to Lorgam, CD Block to Noorpora, and Niabat status to Lalpora, Hari and Meedura.
Rafiq Fida, Acting Chairperson, J&K State Human Rights Commission also called on Mr. Vohra.
Mr. Fida briefed the Governor about the functioning of the Commission, particularly the steps taken to ensure against harassment caused to women, underprivileged and weaker sections of the society, and to monitor the condition of prisoners in various jails etc.
The Governor stressed the high importance of the responsibilities entrusted to State Human Rights Commission and urged Mr. Fida to ensure that the Commission’s objectives are adequately publicized and its work carried out effectively.
