Addressing a press conference, here today, Haji Shak Mohd, President of the Forum, flanked by other office bearers, stressed that all candidates who have contested elections, regardless of their success, share the same intention of working for the betterment of society.
“Even those of us who did not succeed in our elections bear the responsibility and right to serve the society. The mission of serving the public is a common goal, and united, we can make a real difference,” said the Haji, adding that everyone has contested the election with a purpose, and that purpose remains unchanged regardless of the outcome of the election results.
Highlighting the persistent corruption plaguing Jammu & Kashmir, the Haji said that most effective way to combat corruption is by constitutionally establishing an Accountability Commission with full authority. “The demand for the immediate re-establishment of this commission is non-negotiable. The people of J&K deserve a system that holds public officials accountable,” he added.
Also opposing ‘unconstitutional’ reservations under RBA and ST2, Haji Shak Mohd said: “The Constitution allowed reservation for the upliftment of marginalized communities, but certain reservations that have been imposed later are unconstitutional and are not in the best interest of the nation or society. We call upon the Government to immediately withdraw these unconstitutional reservations.”
Drawing attention towards the plights of the elderly, disabled, and helpless, Haji Shak Mohd sought urgent need to increase old-age and disability pensions to Rs 5000 per month. He also called for a simplified process for claiming pensions, particularly for the destitute. “The current system is overly complicated, and many elderly and disabled individual are unable to navigate the bureaucratic hurdles. There should be a single window for applications and pensions should be approved within 15 days of submission,” he urged.
Addressing another critical issue impacting millions in Jammu and Kashmir, Haji ShakMohd appealed the Government to immediately regularize the services of daily wagers workers across all the departments.
In the press conference, Haji ShakMohd was flanked by MCUF Vice presidents Asiff Gill, Ravinder Singh Papu, Om Parkash Gupta, Raj Kumar Lalotra, General Secy Ravi Dutt and Secy Shah Mohd.
