MLA detained for trying to march to Sayeed’s residence

SRINAGAR :  Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid was today detained along with 20 supporters here as he was heading towards residence of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to protest against yesterday’s killing of a youth allegedly in police action.
Rashid, MLA from Langate, and his supporters were detained at Ram Munshi Bagh crossing on way to Gupkar residence of the Chief Minister and lodged at the nearby police station, a police official said.
The controversial MLA was planning to protest outside Sayeed’s residence against the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Dar.
Dar, an engineering student, was hit by a tear smoke shell allegedly fired by police to disperse a stone-pelting mob near his Zainakote residence last evening.
He succumbed to injuries at a hospital. (PTI)
