KATHUA, Jan 29 : A Mega Kisan Mela was today inaugurated by MLA Kathua, Dr Bharat Bhushan in Lakhanpur.
The Vice- Chairman of DDC Kathua, Raghunandan Singh and the Director Agriculture Production, Arvinder Singh presided over the function.
The event organized by Agriculture Department Kathua under the supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer, Sanjeev Rai Gupta witnessed the participation of various stakeholders including progressive farmers, agriculture experts, private players and budding entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bharat Bhushan emphasized the importance of organizing such events to equip our farmers with latest advancements in agriculture, Horticulture and allied fields and the need to promote organic farming.
He appreciated the efforts of Agriculture Department in reaching out to the farmers and stressed the need for organizing more such events in future.
Director, Agriculture Arvinder Singh in his address elaborated on the importance of Holistic Agriculture Development Programme and advised farmers to avail benefits of the Government schemes to increase income.
The Chief Horticulture Officer, District Officers of line departments, farmers produce organizations, entrepreneurs and farmers in large number were present on the occasion.
Diverse range of stalls showcased agricultural advancements, innovative practices, farm machinery, organic products, advancements in seed production and the scope of Drone technology in the farm practices.
The Department of Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Indian system of Medicines, Khadi and Village Industries Board, J&K Bank, SKUAST Jammu, Farmer Producer originations, SHGs and NGOs participated in the Kisan Mela organized under Holistic Agriculture Department Programme (HADP).
About 35 farmers were provided tractors on subsidized rates besides other farm machinery on the occasion.
