JAMMU, Dec 12: Member Legislative Assembly Kathua Dr. Bharat Bhushan today met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Civil Secretariat & raised various issues of Kathua constituency.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan apprised the Chief Minister that Kathua constituency is having three major towns viz Kathua, Nagri and Lakhanpur, aggregating population of these three towns is about 2 lakhs. There is no sewerage system in these three towns and the people are suffering since decades. The drains are mostly damaged & drain water flows in open lanes posing grave health hazards. The situation in rainy season worsens so a comprehensive sewerage system for Kathua, Nagri & Lakhanpur is required so that people get relief and these towns are provided proper sewerage system.
He submitted that at least four double lane bridges be constructed on Ravi canal in Kathua town to provide hassle free movement of vehicles and commuters in the town.
Emphasing creation of parking spots in Kathua town, the Legislator said that there is no parking space for vehicles in the town. “Long term planning is required for developing parking lots in the town. Two parking lots be developed as an immediate measure on available Government land at PWD colony & at RTIC abandoned store,” he demanded
MLA Kathua apprised Chief Minister that Kathua – Nagri road is single lane & often witnesses jams & frequent accidents. This road not only connects Kathua with Nagri but also connects with around 20 villages of Hiranagar and connects Bamial, Narote, Sunder chak and other areas of Punjab too
A DPR of the road amounting to Rs 17.77 crores has been submitted to Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Jammu but nothing has been done thereafter. The funds be provided immediately under NABARD or BRO may be roped in so that long pending genuine issue affecting lakhs of population is addressed”, he added.
The other issues raised by MLA Kathua with Chief Minister include curbing the menace of drug abuse in Kathua district, providing 5 Marlas free land to houseless & BPL families, special recruitment drive in Police and Army for local youth & giving priority to local educated & skilled youth in new industries coming up in the Industrial Estate Bhagthali & Ghatti under new industrial package.
