JAMMU, Mar 24: Member Legislative Assembly Ramnagar, Dr Sunil Bhardwaj today raised serious concerns in the J&K Legislative Assembly about the deteriorating healthcare services in his constituency.
During the Question Hour, Dr Bhardwaj highlighted the severe shortage of doctors, paramedical staff, and medical facilities at hospitals and healthcare centers in the region, including the Ramnagar Sub-District Hospital, Basantgarh Hospital, and several Primary Health Centers (PHCs).
Dr Bhardwaj pointed out that the Ramnagar Sub-District Hospital is without a surgeon or child specialist, forcing patients to travel long distances for treatment.
Many PHCs and Community Health Centers (CHCs) lack medical officers, putting rural communities at risk, he said.
He also raised concerns about irregular appointments in the health department, citing the case of a dental surgeon at PHC Chanunta who has not been present for five years but continues to receive a salary.
The MLA criticized the lack of basic medical equipment and staff at Basantgarh Hospital, where an ultrasound machine is available but no radiologist is present.
He also emphasized the need for improved road access to Basantgarh Hospital, where patients still rely on makeshift stretchers.
Dr Bhardwaj urged the Government to approve a Rs 25 crore budget proposal to upgrade Ramnagar Hospital and to convert Basantgarh PHC into a CHC.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo acknowledged the shortage of doctors but assured that steps are being taken to address the issue, although budget constraints limit hospital upgrades.
Dr Bhardwaj demanded quicker action to ensure proper healthcare for the people of Ramnagar and Basantgarh.
