POONCH, Dec 28:  In the backdrop of massive protests by people across Mendhar Sub-Division against PHE authorities for total collapse of water supply system, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Javed Rana today  convened a meeting of officers and officials of PHE Department.
The MLA instructed the functionaries of PHE to take emergent measures to reduce the suffering of people caused by acute shortage of drinking water. He said coupled with prolonged dry spell, the utter lack of coordination and laxity on the part of PHE field functionaries has accentuated the sufferings of common man manifold.
“The department has failed to provide adequate water supply despite spending hundreds of crores in several water supply schemes. As a severe drought like condition prevails in the region, the miseries of common man have gone beyond tolerance”, he said.
In the meeting attended by Tehsildar Mendhar, Shehzad Khan, AEE PHE, Ishrar Khan, JEs and other officials of PHE, the staff  informed the MLA that out of total  80 water supply schemes, only 3 are partially functional. Rana pointed out that things were not right in the PHE Department and there was no accountability at all.
“Even those schemes which have been completed are not being run efficiently and there is total lack of coordination between the Civil and Mechanical wings of the department,” the MLA observed and instructed the officials to immediately put in place workable mechanisms to improve coordination between officials at different levels.
