JAMMU, Mar 17: In response to escalating security concerns and the growing threat of terrorism in the hilly region of Billawar constituency, MLA Satish Kumar Sharma has submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, urging the immediate establishment of an additional Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) post.
The memorandum highlights the alarming rise in terrorism-related incidents, including three civilian killings in Billawar constituency, which have instilled fear among the local populace. Given the region’s challenging terrain and the significant distance of nearly 100 km from the district headquarters, law enforcement agencies face severe delays in responding to security threats. The proposed SSP post aims to bridge this gap by ensuring rapid response, proactive policing, and a reinforced security infrastructure.
Speaking on the matter, MLA emphasized, “The security and well-being of the people of Billawar are of utmost priority. The establishment of an additional SSP post will not only enhance intelligence gathering and counterterrorism operations but will also restore public confidence and pave the way for economic stability.”
Sharma also called for urgent intervention in critical infrastructure and healthcare development in Billawar Constituency. The major demands include- upgradation and 4-Laning of Dhar-Udhampur Road, construction of a road from Gujjar Basti to Chew via Dehota-Thingen-Hanoq-Madoon, widening of Billawar to Katli road; New Primary Health Center (PHC) in Katli for serving over 30,000 residents with essential healthcare services; upgradation of Community Health Center (CHC), Billawar including a Blood Bank, advanced diagnostic tools, a fully functional Operation Theatre, a Jan Aushadhi Kendra, and a Dialysis Unit.
MLA Sharma urged the Lt Governor to take up these matters with the Government of Bharat to expedite approvals and funding. The people of Billawar now await swift action from the administration to address these pressing concerns.
The LG gave full assurance to resolve the issues at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Shri Shri Jagat Amba Sharika Chakreshwar Sanastha Trust Hari Parbat, Devi Angan, Srinagar, led by its President Ranjeet Gurkha called on Lieutenant Governor.
Subsequently, representatives of Global Solace Society also called on the Lieutenant Governor.
